Green Eco-Friendly
At Hardwoods Specialty Products we are constantly looking for ways to reduce our impact on our environment and conserve our natural resources. Some of the ways we do this is by constantly striving to add new environmentally responsible materials to our product offerings. As North America’s largest industrial wholesaler of hardwood lumber and plywood, we also push our suppliers to be proactive participants in both regional and global organizations that support the sustainability of our industry and the protection of our environment. We support programs such as Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED), which provide a standard of environmental sustainability in construction, and we are proud to offer products that help our clients attain LEED credits.
Every Hardwoods location has been FSC certified for Chain of Custody. The Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certification and labeling system means that these products have been harvested from forests that meet stringent environmental, social and economic standards or are from verified recycled sources. We source both lumber and plywood from around the world that are certified FSC compliant.
All of our hardwood plywood vendors are actively pursuing their CARB certifications to meet California Air Resource Board’s Airborne Toxic Control Measure to Reduce Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products. These emissions certifications dramatically reduce the formaldehyde emissions of the panel products we distribute. We anticipate that all of our plywood vendors, including our Dragon Ply mills, will be CARB certified prior to Phase I implementation, January 2009. Many of our suppliers are already producing panel products under Phase I emission requirements, and some even under Phase II requirements, which will go into effect in January 2010 through July 2012.
Hardwoods will continue to source environmentally friendly wood products that benefit both our customers and the environment. The sustainability of our industry is our future, and we will continue promoting environmental awareness throughout every step in our supply chain. Hardwoods Specialty Products can help distinguish your company in the marketplace by providing global sourcing of products that drive sustainable design.
